Change password with -Z parameter through SQLSMD

Question: You are trying to run some scripts using SQLCMD but keep getting errors that your password has expired. SSMS is not installed on this machine. What should you do?

Answer: Use the -Z parameter to change your password.

Explanation: While many of us might feel like going home, that’s not a great solution. Either calling a DBA or finding another workstation will work, but that’s inefficient. With the -Z parameter, you can change your own password with SQLCMD.

Numeric Round-Abort (NUMERIC_ROUNDABORT) in SQL Server

The Numeric Round-Abort determines the behavior when an operation results in a loss of precision. When set to TRUE in SQL Server Management Studio or ON when using the ALTER DATABASE command, an error is generated when loss of precision occurs in an expression.

When set to FALSE, losses of precision do not generate error messages and the results are rounded to the precision of the column or variable storing the result.

Date Correlation Optimization Enabled (date_correlation_optimization_option) in SQL Server

Date Correlation Optimization option controls the date correlation optimization. The date correlation optimization improves performance of queries that perform an equijoin between two tables that specify a date restriction in the query’s WHERE clause predicate, and whose datetime columns are linked by a foreign key constraint.
Setting the Date Correlation Optimization Enabled to TRUE directs SQL Server to maintain correlation statistics between any two tables in the database that are linked by a FOREIGN KEY constraint and have datetime columns.
Setting this option to FALSE disables date correlation.
