Scripting skills are mandatory

While browsing many forums and blogs i have noticed that most of DBAs are working with hundreds of databases and dozens of SQL Server instances. Even some are managing thousands of databases and hundreds of instances.
Several times there are minor configuration/changes that are executed on subset or all of databases like update/change database compatibility level, set database to single/multi user mode or to update a look up table that is created in all databases with little modification. Now imagine that if such configuration/change are required in hundreds of databases, then by using SSMS/EM it will be a night mare. Even with conventional single command usage it will take a lot of time.
So keeping in view that successfull DBA always seeks automation, it is required to have a grip on T-SQL scripting. Especially the scripts involving cross/multi databases or cross/multiple instances. It would be help full to pay attention to optimization and security of database environment rather than to spend time on lengthy operations.
